Welcome to the interactive Cataract Guide. We have included general information and frequently asked questions. If you need more information, we are available.
As we continue to age, the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy and discoloured. When this occurs, light rays passing through the eye become scattered and unfocused, resulting in a blurry image.
In order to see clearly again, the natural cloudy lens needs to be surgically removed and in its place, an artificial Intraocular Lens (or IOL) will be implanted.
Is there an alternative to surgery? Is it okay to ignore it?

Surgery is the only way to go.
While you can choose a comfortable time for your surgery, Cataract should not be left untreated for too long.
What happens if Cataract goes untreated? Over time, the clouded areas of your lens can become larger and denser, causing your sight to become worse. This could take anywhere from a few months to many years. Eventually, your entire lens can cloud over and cause blindness.
* Your will need to undergo standard Surgical profile tests. These include:
* CBP, ESR, RBS, HIV, HB SAg, HCV, CUE, ECG
* Your surgeon/counsellor will provide you with precise list of medications to undergo.
* You must take your usual medication except for the anti-coagulants like Ecosprin, Aspirin etc.
* Have your regular diet
* Have a headbath and avoid eye makeup and perfume.
* If you have enough cold, fever - inform the surgeon before surgery
